The Making of a Family Portrait

Do you ever walk into someone's home and see a gorgeous wall portrait of their family hanging in the den or living room and think Wow! I'd like to have that of my family but I don't know where to start?

That's the benefit of using a professional photographer - we can help take the hassle out of it for you!  We can help you plan your session, give you suggestions for location, clothing, style, and make recommendations for printed products.  Then we'll edit the images making sure they look their best and order them on archival media to make sure they last a lifetime, and then delivery them to you!

When you see that beautiful finished portrait, just know that there were several and sometimes many other images that got culled away for one reason or another.  And sometimes, those less than perfect ones are ideal for a family album because they show the reality and personality of that family.

I've included several images from a recent family portrait session at Prather Park in Dallas, Texas.  I had the privilege to meet this family last year when their daughter Ruth turned one year old and they came back this year when their second daughter, Gwen turned one!  What an honor to be able to capture and record these milestones in the history of this precious family.

As you view the images keep in mind that the date was early October and unseasonably warm.  Should have been a nice, cool autumn day, but the temp was literally 98 that afternoon.  Thankfully, we had chosen a shady park but we were all rather wilted pretty quickly.  The bubbles were introduced because Ruth is a raving fan of bubbles and you can see her dismay in one of the images when she was not being allowed to have them yet.  Mom and Dad did a great job making sure they were always looking at the camera and smiling, while Randy and I tried a variety of sounds and motions to get the attention of the girls, including singing!
